The summer I celebrated my second birthday I had an imaginary friend named Timpy. My family thought I was calling myself Timpy, so they started calling me Timpy. Forty-eight years later my mom was still writing me letters that began, "Dearest Timp." This was strictly a family name; except for my sister's friends, no one outside our family ever used this name for me. This is the photo that mom carried in her billfold for 48 years, and it's the story she told about this photo that prompted me to call my business TimpyWorks. The day this photo was taken my dad had finished building a teeter-totter for my sister and the other big kids in the neighborhood. I was told I was too little to play on it, so I gathered together some materials and made my own teeter-totter. Mom said I played on it all day, all the while grinning and saying, "Mine own teeter-totter." I like that little kid's attitude, don't you? I don't remember that day at all, but I'll just bet I was telling my imaginary friend Timpy all about what a great teeter-totter I'd made, and encouraging her to make one too!
